The Gathering Place
A place to connect, belong, and find common ground.
The Gathering Place is a community space created through a partnership between Grace UMC and the Salem Ministerial Alliance Community Food Pantry.
Located alongside the SMA Pantry, The Gathering Place provides a welcoming space where people can sit down, share a cup of coffee, learn something new, build relationships, and simply be together.
We believe ministry doesn't always begin with a program or a service. Sometimes it begins with a cup of coffee, a conversation, a shared table, or simply knowing that there is a place where you are welcome.
What Happens at the Gathering Place?
The Gathering Place is growing into a space for:

Some things will be planned. Others will happen simply because people come together.
Why We Created It
The Gathering Place grew from a simple idea: people need more than food. First, we added clothing and household items, a children's activity space and a prayer station. But people still needed more...
They need connection, community, dignity, and a place to belong.
While the SMA Pantry helps meet an important physical need, The Gathering Place fills gaps and creates opportunities to address another kind of hunger—the hunger for friendship, purpose, belonging, and community.
This is a place where everyone has something to give and something to receive.
